dInternational Women’s Day 2026: A Pivotal Moment for Awareness, Solidarity, and Unified Voices
8 March 2026 – Toronto, Canada
We extend our heartfelt congratulations on 8 March- international Women’s Day to the resilient, courageous, and defiant women and girls of Afghanistan. You are living symbols of endurance, hope, and the unyielding struggle for human dignity. Even in the darkest of times, your voices remain unbroken, and your determination to live with honor endures.
It is crystal clear that under five years of Taliban rule, the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan has become one of the most severe human rights crises in the world. Girls have been systematically barred from secondary and higher education; more than two million Afghan girls remain excluded from schools, vocational training, and universities.
Similarly, educated and professional women have been removed from the vast majority of employment opportunities, including positions in government institutions and non-governmental organizations. Their freedom of movement is severely restricted; access to public spaces such as parks, sports facilities, and even healthcare services without a male guardian has become difficult or impossible. Systematic violence including gender-based violence, arbitrary detentions, and psychological pressure continues to escalate.
These policies not only flagrantly violate the fundamental rights of Afghan women and girls but also jeopardize the future of the entire nation and deepen the country’s humanitarian crisis.
Forward Together Development Network (FTD-N) remains steadfastly committed to sustainable development and human rights. Despite immense constraints in recent years, we have continued with dedication and perseverance, within the limits of our human capacity to advocate for the rights of Afghan women and girls. Our focus is on advancing gender equality, combating gender-based violence, securing access to justice, ensuring equitable education, protecting the right to employment, upholding individual freedoms, and enabling women’s active participation in public life and civic institutions.
We pledge to stand with you and partner organizations in amplifying women’s voices of protest, documenting human rights violations, and pursuing every possible avenue toward lasting, meaningful change in our beloved country, Afghanistan.
On this historic and inspiring day, we warmly invite educated Afghan women and girls to join us in deepening awareness of the situation facing women in Afghanistan and in advocating for their rights within the framework of international law and human rights standards. Rest assured that the security and confidentiality of your information and communications will be fully protected.
We also strongly encourage you to share your valuable perspectives, ideas, and suggestions to help strengthen and improve our work. Your voice matters profoundly to us—and together, we can move toward a more just future.
International Women’s Day is our shared day of resistance. Hope is alive, and change is possible.
